Blount County is one of the oldest counties in Tennessee, established in 1795. Resting 16 miles southwest of Knoxville in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, and 26 miles from the racecourse in Oak Ridge. Blount County is 989 feet above sea level and it's located near the geographic center of the eastern United States and is within 500 miles of approximately 50 percent of the U.S. population. This allows your crew to be on the water sooner and stay longer.
Blount County is bordered on the east by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and on the west by the great chain of lakes created by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). There are an abundance of outdoor recreation activities with five area lakes and areas to enjoy hiking, rowing, and fishing.
The Knoxville Regional Metropolitan Airport, McGhee-Tyson, is located minutes from our lodging and training facilities in Alcoa and Louisville. Our area has very manageable traffic. The boathouse is 4 miles off I-140 and 9 miles from I-40/I-75. All of our facilities and support areas are within a 10 minutes of each other by using our network major highways that serve the area.
On your planned down day we have direct access into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
There are a large variety of supermarkets, restaurants, and retail centers that are convenient to your lodging in Maryville and Alcoa.
Our BOATHOUSE (3452 Louisville Rd. Louisville TN) [view map] is a six-acre property purchased in 2012 being developed by the club as a training center. This location provides plenty of boat layout area, launching dock, and parking. The boathouse is located at river marker 625.2, on the very row-able Ft. Loudoun Lake, which is the first 50-mile section of the Tennessee River. Crews will find Ft. Loudoun Dam (Marker 603) 22 miles downstream and the Knoxville riverfront (Marker 652) 27 miles upstream. This TVA controlled navigational waterway with light shipping traffic, includes our 2,000 training area (marked in green) outside of the main channel. River Elevation: May 15st – November 1st, Summer Pool Elevation 813, December 1st – March 31st, Winter Pool Elevation 809. Due to winter pool there may be submerged unmarked obstacles present in training area.
We offer a complete indoor training facility at our WATT STREET GYM (259 East Watt Street Alcoa, TN) [view map] location. This 2000 sq. ft. gym can be used during inclement weather days or when extra practice is needed, stocked with top of the line strength and conditioning equipment, 16 ergometers.
