2011 Coaching Staff

 

Rachel Dooley

UT Lady Vol and a 2011 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in communications, Rachel was recently named as a new coach for ETRO, where she will lead our masters rowing program.

After an impressive high school rowing career with Everett Rowing Association, Marysville, Washington native Dooley was recruited to row for the Lady Volunteers at the University of Tennessee. While at UT from 2007-2011, Dooley competed in several NCAA Championships and prestigious regattas that earned her and her crew several medals, including four appearances at the Head of the Charles Regatta, which included one gold medal finish. She was also in the shell that recorded UT's best finish yet at the NCAA Championships in 2008, placing fifth in the Grand Finals.

During the 2009-2010 season at UT, Dooley was voted Most Inspirational Athlete and received All-Conference USA honors after leading the Varsity 8+ to win a Conference USA Championship. Rachel was also featured on the spring 2010 cover of NCAA Champion Magazine, a publication that strives to illustrate how good people do great things in intercollegiate athletics.

Rachel lives in Knoxville and works as a production assistant with Scripps Networks.

Amelia Houghton

Amelia, a 2011 graduate of the University of Alabama with a major in psychology and a minor in international studies, was recently named as the new ETRO juniors coach.

Amelia was born in London, England and moved to Jacksonville, FL as a high school freshman. She started her rowing career early, first in England by rowing with the Emanuel School Boat Club in London and then rowing with Riverbank Rowing in Jacksonville while a student at Allen D. Nease High School in St. Augustine. While in high school, Amelia had a very successful rowing career in sculling singles and doubles, winning third place in the W2X category in the Florida State Championship and the SE Regional Championship and a first place win in W1X at the Head of the Hosmer while attending the Craftsury Sculling Camp in Craftsbury, VT. Amelia also competed and placed well in the OARS Invitational Regatta and the USRowing Youth National Championship.

A former recruit of the varsity rowing team at the University of Alabama, Amelia was member of the first Alabama boat to be regionally ranked by the NCAA. While at Alabama, she earned several medals with the Crimson Tide, including a gold medal in the Varsity 4+ at the SIRA Championships in 2010 and a bronze medal in the C final of the South/Central Sprints. That same year, she also helped the Tide's Varsity B boat to a win against Kansas State and earned a place on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

During the 2008-2009 season, Amelia led the Tide's Second Varsity 8+ to a fourth-place finish in the Grand Finals of the SIRA Championships and earned a win as part of the Second Varsity 8+ boat in a tri-meet with UNC and SMU. She also earned dual meet wins as part of the Tide's Second Varsity 8+ against Kansas State.

As a freshman, she helped the Crimson Tide's First Novice 8+ to a fourth-place finish at the SIRA Championships and was part of the Tide's First Novice 8+ boat that finished fourth in the Grand Finals of the Dad Vail College Championships. In addition, Houghton led Alabama's First Novice 8+ to dual meet wins against UNC, Drake, SMU, Creighton and Murray State.
